Curling is an event where Team Canada has a great chance to bring home up to 3 gold medals at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Team Gushue is a big favourite in the men’s event, while Team Jones is also the favourite in the Women’s event. Both the Men’s and Women’s curling events take place between the 9th and 19th of February, while the mixed doubles event, where Canada is also the favourite with a duo of Rachel Homan and John Morris, kicks off the Olympics taking place between the 2nd and 8th.
The Canadian curling teams are widely celebrated here in Canada, so there will be a lot of television coverage of their tournaments and a lot of pressure on each team to bring home gold for Canada.
Below I’ve included the pre-tournament odds for both the Men’s and Women’s events. I’ve taken the odds from our top rated betting site, Sports Interaction.
You will also be able to bet on each individual game at Sports Interaction. Select ‘Winter Olympics’ and ‘Curling’ on the sportsbook page to find all of the odds.
Men’s Curling Gold Medal Odds
Here are the odds for the Men’s Curling tournament at the 2022 Olympics from SportsInteraction.com:
The Canadian Men (Team Koe) failed to medal at the 2018 Olympics losing in the bronze medal game. Prior to that Olympic Games the Canadian Men’s rink had won gold at the previous three Winter Olympics. That streak was started by a Gushue rink that won the gold medal in Turin in 2006. Gushue and third Mark Nichols will attempt to repeat as Olympic Champions in their return to the Olympics, with the other members of the team having changed since the Olympic win 16 years ago.
The biggest threats for Canada are Team Great Britain and Team Sweden, but you can also not count out the Team USA rink skipped by John Shuster that won the gold medal at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang. Team Sweden, skipped by Niklas Edin won the 2021 Men’s Curling Championship in Calgary last April, while Team Great Britain finished second in that event.
I like Brad Gushue and his team to continue their form from the Olympic Trials and bring another gold back for Canada.
Play: Team Canada 2.10
Women’s Curling Gold Medal Odds
Team Jennifer Jones will return to the Olympics for the second time. In their first Olympic Games, team Jones got the job done, winning the gold medal in Sochi in 2014. Team Jones was not the best team at the Canadian Olympic trial, finishing 5-3 in the round robin, while Team Fleury went 8-0, but they were able to claw their way to the finals and clutch in defeating Team Fleury in an extra end to earn the right to represent Canada at these Olympic Games.
Just like with the Men, the Canadian tournaments generally have stiffer competition than the International events. That said, a gold medal is by no means guarantee, with Team Sweden, Team Great Britain and Team Switzerland all considered legitimate contenders for the gold.
Team Jones has shown the ability to win big tournaments in the past, and this is the reason I think the Canadian women will find a way to win the gold in Beijing. Even when Team Jones doesn’t have their A-game they still find a way to win.
Play: Team Canada 2.66
There is also a mixed doubles event this year. Team Canada is also favoured in that event at odds of 2.56 with Rachel Homan and John Morris looking to bring home another gold for Canada. John Morris and Kaitlyn Lawes won the gold for Canada in 2018.
