I took last night off with my NHL picks and on Tuesday I was hit with some poor luck going 1-2 with my picks, with both losses coming in OT. There’s plenty of games to choose from again tonight, so hopefully we can find some great value plays.
My season record for NHL picks is now 8-7 for -0.11 units.
I’m using the best odds from any of our top rated sportsbooks for Canadian bettors for my NHL picks.
New Jersey Devils @ Boston Bruins
This is the Bruins home opener and there seems to be some narrative street applied to these odds because I don’t see how the Devils should be this big of underdog against the Bruins. Yes, Patrice Bergeron is back, which is huge for the Bruins, but I still think the Devils are a better all around team and should be able to outperform tonight in Boston.
The Devils now have two legitimate scoring lines with Cammalleri-Henrique-Palmieri and Hall-Zajac-Parenteau. They’ve yet to really start scoring a ton of goals, but Hall got going with two powerplay goals last game if he can build on that momentum it will be huge for this team.
The defensive game is still as good as ever for the Devils, with Andy Greene leading the way from the back end. He’s one of the best defensive defensemen in the league who doesn’t get nearly enough credit. He should be able to shutdown whichever Bruins line he’s up against and that will leave the Devils offense to pick up the slack and get the job done.
This is some good value on an underrated Devils team.

Washington Capitals @ Florida Panthers
I really like the Panthers team this year. They have a very solid defense corps lead by Ekblad, Yandle, Demers and Matheson, while still having a great deal of young talent and depth up front. I think the Panthers will be able to slow down Ovechkin and company tonight, while the top two lines that include guys like Trocheck, Jagr and Barkov, should be able to find the back of the net at home.

Colorado Avalanche @ Tampa Bay Lightning
The Avs rely heavily on their top line of Landeskog-Mackinnon-Iginla. On the road against a team that boasts one of the best shutdown defensive pairings in the league in Hedman-Stralman that’s a difficult situation to be in.
On the other side, the Lightning offense is firing with 13 goals in 4 games. The Avs have some defensemen that can be beat by high skilled forwards, which the Lightning have a plethora of. I could see this game getting out of hand quickly and finishing with a score of around 4-1. I like the Lightning to win this game by 2+.

St. Louis Blues @ Edmonton Oilers
The Blues dominated the Canucks a couple nights back before giving up a goal late and then losing in OT. I expect a similar domination tonight against the Oilers and if they don’t get somewhat unlucky again St. Louis should get their first win in Western Canada.
St. Louis has a ton of depth, which helps a lot on the road when you can’t set match ups. Look for Tarasenko to have another big game and add to his total of 4 goals in 4 games.
