It’s fight day! Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury will rematch with Usyk’s heavyweight titles on the line this evening (Saturday, December 21st) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The pair originally fought for the undisputed heavyweight title earlier this year (May 18th) with Oleksandr Usyk winning the undisputed championship by split decision in a close fight where Usyk’s knockdown of Fury to claim a 10-8 round in the 9th ended up being the difference. Usyk vacated the IBF title shortly after the first fight to allow for this rematch with Fury, which means this fight will not be for the undisputed title, but instead for 5 of the 6 major heavyweight titles.
Tyson Fury is now 34-1-1 in his professional boxing career with his only loss coming to Usyk in their fight earlier this year. Fury is the bigger man and he had some great rounds in the first fight winning the same amount of rounds as Usyk across the three scorecards. Fury is the underdog heading into the rematch, but he’s a very live underdog with many paths to victory in this fight.
Oleskandr Usyk is now 22-0 in his career and he will be defending his WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, IBO, and The Ring heavyweight belts in this fight. Usyk will need to put on another boxing showcase to defeat Fury in this rematch.
