Euro 2024 is currently underway in Germany. The tournament will run this summer from June 14th to July 14th. Twenty-four European nations qualified for the tournament and will battle it out through the group stage and knockout rounds at Euro 2024.
Team Canada will be participating in Copa America 2024 at the same time, but a lot of Canadians will be just as interested in the UEFA European Championship. I for one am really looking forward to watching the best soccer players in the world battle it out for national glory in both the Euros and Copa America.
England, France and Germany were the favourites leading into the tournament, as they should have been with all of their international success of late. France finished as runner-up at the 2022 World Cup, while England lost to Italy in penalties in the Final of Euro 2020 (in 2021). Germany is always a contender internationally, and they will have the home field advantage throughout Euro 2024. That said, there is so much talent in Europe that this tournament is really up for grabs with about 9 or so nations having a legitimate chance at glory in Germany this summer.
The Dutch are coming off a World Cup where they were the only team in the tournament to not lose a game prior to penalties. If they can build off that performance they should have a chance in Germany. They are one of the 9 teams who I consider contenders, so I’m excited to see how they perform.
