I didn’t hit either of my underdog picks last night. The Sabres winning streak came to an end with an exclamation mark in Tampa Bay, where the Lightning scored 5 unanswered goals to win the game. My other pick was the Sens and they weren’t able to step up to the occasion of Alfredsson retiring in front of an amped up crowd.
There’s only 3 games today, and I’m only making one play.
NHL Season Record: 45-60 for -3.05 units.
Colorado Avalanche @ Winnipeg Jets
The Avalanche did play last night in Calgary and suffered a bit of a heart breaking loss after being up by a goal with just over a minute left the Avs gave one up to Dennis Wideman and then ended up losing in overtime on a goal by Sean Monahan. That said, this Avalanche team is starting to play a bit better than they were to start the season. They are still having trouble at the defensive end of the ice, but the Jets have the fewest goals for in the Western Conference, so this might be the perfect game for the Avs to start to improve their defensive game.
Even though Colorado did play last night I expect them to be up for this game and ready to put the last minute loss behind them. They need points against teams like Winnipeg if they hope to claw back into the playoff race. On top of those reasons I’m just not a big believer in the Jets team and I fade them when I get the chance.
