It was a pretty long weekend for me, so after a couple big wins on Friday, I wasn’t able to get picks up the last few days. That said we’re back with another big Tuesday night now and the couple of hits on Friday did a lot to put me back in the black for the season. I’ll look to keep that going now.
NHL Season Record: 34-38 for +2.19 units.
Tampa Bay Lightning @ New York Islanders
The Lightning are simply firing on all cylinders over the past month. They did play last night, but this is a young team that I expect to be ready to go hard in this back to back situation. These teams did play this past Saturday in Tampa Bay, with the Lightning winning 5-2. The Isles will be up for this game, but I just can’t see them slowing down the Tampa offense at this time. Tampa has 71 goals so far this season, which is 11 more than the Penguins who are the next closest (although the Pens have played 3 fewer games).
The only issue for the Lightning is that Nabokov is getting the nod over Bishop tonight, but I still like the Lightning young guns to keep putting the puck in the net tonight to make up for any goaltending issues.

Pittsburgh Penguins @ Montreal Canadiens
This is a huge game between the top team of each division and a couple teams that could battle for the Eastern Conference crown this year. The Penguins have just been on fire of late, with their only slip up in their last team games coming in a 5-0 disaster against the Rangers. They’re coming off a shootout win over the Rangers to get some revenge, but now they play their first game of the season against the Habs.
Montreal is currently riding their own 6 game winning streak that includes some impressive wins over the wild, Bruins, and Red Wings. Over their past five games, which just takes out the Sabes game to start their streak, the Habs have outscored opponents 22-6. Needless to say this Habs team is rocking right now.
I’m taking Montreal in this one because they are home dogs even though they are playing lights out hockey and Carey Price is the confirmed starter.

Carolina Hurricanes @ Dallas Stars
The Stars are still drastically overrated this season even though they can’t figure out how to win. They have only 16 points in 18 games and I think it’s almost time to admit that Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky don’t help a team win games. Just look at the 61 goals against the Stars have for the most in the West.
The Hurricanes have dropped off of late, but I still like their odds heading to Dallas tonight.

Well, that’s enough for today. Three prime picks out of a busy night. I have a good feeling about going 3 for 3 with these underdogs this evening.
