Visa Logo

Visa is a great deposit option because most adults in Canada will have either a Visa or a Mastercard.  The issue with Visa comes in that they sometimes attempt to block payments to online gambling sites.

Some sites have found ways around this restriction and still allow Visa deposits, but you should be aware when attempting to use your Visa to deposit that the transaction may not be approved.  Also, it seems somewhat random with Visa’s from certain banks working at certain sportsbooks, while Visa’s from other banks do not work, etc, etc.  Basically, I suggest you try depositing with your Visa card and if it is not accepted then look at depositing via another method that the betting site accepts.

Visa Deposit Guide

Depositing via Visa at an online sportsbook is pretty much the exact same as using your Visa for any online purchase.

You will need to provide your credit card number, the name on the card, CVC (verification number), the expiry date and the amount you wish to deposit.

After entering all of that information just click deposit and you will be notified whether or not the deposit was accepted.

Visa Gift Cards

If your regular Visa card doesn’t work it is still possible that a prepaid Visa gift card could work for your deposit.

For example, some Canadian banks will attempt to block gambling transactions, which could make it difficult to deposit with your own credit card, but there is usually no problem with a gift card.  If you do decide to go the gift card route I suggest asking customer support which prepaid gift card you should buy in order to guarantee that your deposit will work.

The Sports Betting Canadian

From my experience if you are going to buy a prepaid credit card you should go with the Vanilla MasterCard.  I have never heard of any problems depositing with Vanilla MasterCards, but I have heard of prepaid Visa’s not working at Sports Interaction.

I’ve started to test popular prepaid Visa and MasterCard providers at our recommended online sportsbooks. Check out my findings and recommendations for each prepaid credit card below:

Other Ways to Deposit with Visa

Another way to deposit with Visa when the betting site isn’t accepting a direct Visa deposit is to go through a third party payment processor or ewallet.

Most betting sites will accept various e-wallets that can be funded with or linked to a Visa card.

For example, Betway.com accepts deposits from MuchBetter e-wallets (which allow you to fund your accounts with Visa), paysafecard vouchers which you can buy online with a Visa card, or through PayPal which can have a Visa card linked to your account.

Withdrawals

Withdrawals work differently depending on which sportsbook you are using.  At some sportsbooks they will try to cash out your winnings back to your Visa card.  If this isn’t the withdrawal method you want you will have to contact customer support to add a new cash out method to your account.

You will also likely have to send in some verification documents including a piece of government issued identification (drivers license) and proof of address (any bank statement) before requesting a withdrawal after making your deposit through Visa.  After jumping through these hoops you will be able to request a cashout via Interac or bank transfer.
