Last week was not a strong performance for my CFL picks. I went 1-3 and the win was thanks to an overtime victory by the Bombers in Ottawa on Friday. The Lions and Stampeders failed to cover their spreads as favourites even though they won their games, and the Riders beat the Eskimos thanks to a late touchdown, which allowed them to beat the +4 spread we had on the Eskies. My season record now sits at 30-21 against the spread this CFL season. I’m hoping to put together a few more winning weeks leading into the playoffs.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats @ Toronto Argonauts
- Hamilton -7
- Toronto +7
I think the Argos will have had this game circled on their calendar. The Argos lost back to back games to their neighbouring city rivals in weeks 12 and 13, and those losses really ended the Argos season. Toronto has now lost 6 games in a row and they are only playing for pride at this point. That said, the Argos have been able to keep games close against the Lions (3 point loss) and Roughriders from two weeks ago (1 point loss), so I don’t think they will be a pushover in this one.
The Ti-Cats are coming out of a bye and sometimes that can work against a team, especially considering they have a playoff spot locked up and the Argos are one of the worst teams in the league. It’s not an easy game to get up for out of the bye week.
I like Toronto to at least keep this game close. They may be outclassed, but they will want to perform against their rivals in front of their home fans.
Play: Argonauts +7
Saskatchewan Roughriders @ Winnipeg Blue Bombers
- Saskatchewan +3.5
- Winnipeg -3.5
This is a game that could really go either way. The Bombers have a high powered offense, but they’ve also found ways to lose plenty of games this season. I think the spread is fairly accurate in this one, but I’ll take the points expecting this game to stay close.
Play: Roughriders +3.5
Ottawa Redblacks @ Edmonton Eskimos
- Ottawa +4
- Edmonton -4
This is a similar story to the game above. I think these are two very evenly matched teams and I think the spread is on point in this game as well. Once again, I’ll take the points expecting this to be a close game that could go either way.
Edmonton really needs a win here, but Ottawa will also be looking to get back in the win column and secure the top spot in the East Division after a tough home loss to the Bombers last week. I’ll take the points here.
Play: Redblacks +4
BC Lions @ Calgary Stampeders
- BC +10.5
- Calgary -10.5
The Lions got the job done at home to the Argos last week to move into a playoff position, but it wasn’t pretty beating the lowly Argos by only a field goal. The Stampeders offense had their hands full in Montreal this past week only managing 12 points, but I think they will bounce back in a big way against a Lions defense that has been susceptible at points this year.
The Stampeders are still a cut above everyone else in the league. This is a big spread to cover, but at home the Stampeders usually bring their A-game (7-0), and the Lions have been awful on the road this season (1-6). Take the Stampeders to cover.
Play: Stampeders -10.5
