UFC 250: Nunes vs Spencer Betting Picks

The UFC is back with another solid card this Saturday, June 6th. UFC 250 will take place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas and it is headlined by Amanda Nunes defending her featherweight belt against Canadian Felicia Spencer. This is the first time a Canadian has competed for a UFC title since GSP defeated Michael Bisping at UFC 217.

The main event is an interesting fight, but I don’t think it will be a big PPV seller. That said, this is a solid card top to bottom with otehr big fights including Assuncao vs Garbrandt, Sterling vs Sandhagen and Magny vs Rocco Martin on the main card, as well as top prospect Sean O’Malley back in action.

I have three picks below and I will be using the best odds available from any of our top rated betting sites.

Amanda Nunes vs Felicia Spencer

Nunes should be a lock to win this fight with Felicia Spencer. She’s clearly the better fighter on the feet and I wouldn’t be surprised if she was able to end this with an early knockout.

Many critics seem to give Spencer the advantage on the mat, but I’m not buying it. Nunes is still a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu who submitted both Sara McMann and Miesha Tate earlier in her career. Nunes has since improved her striking timing, so she doesn’t have to go to the mat as often, but giving Spencer the edge in that department is short sighted in my opinion. Nunes even took Germaine de Randamie down 8 times in her last fight, while also winning striking exchanges.

Nunes is a truly complete martial artist and I just don’t see any path to victory for Spencer in this fight.

Cody Garbrandt vs Raphael Assuncao

Garbrandt and Assuncao are two top bantamweights that are looking to get back in the win column. Garbrandt has lost three straight, with his last win coming in 2016 over Dominick Cruz. Assuncao has lost to Marlon Moraes and Cory Sandhagen in his last two outings.

I like Raphael Assuncao in this spot. He’s a much more proven commodity than Garbrandt, even though Cody did touch UFC gold. Assuncao is a very steady and patient fighter, which is the perfect strategy against a guy like Garbrandt, who relies on his opponents aggression (and not getting overly aggressive himself) to win fights.

I was not nearly as impressed with Garbrandt’s win over Cruz for the title back in 2016 as the majority of MMA fans. He only won the fight 48-47 and he landed quite a few less shots than Cruz. If it wasn’t for the knockdowns in round 4 you could argue that Cruz won the fight, but the revisionist history says that it was an absolute clinic by Garbrandt.

Let’s not forget that Garbrandt earned that title shot with wins over Marcus Brimage, Henry Briones, Augusto Mendes, Thomas Almeida and Takeya Mizugaki. Almeida is the only fighter left in the UFC and even he proved to be a bust with two more losses after Garbrandt.

Cody did fight well against Cruz, but that was his only win over top level competition in the UFC. Assuncao is as steady as they come and I think he will be able to take a measured approach vs Garbrandt and win a tight decision or potentially get the knockout if Cody gets too aggressive.

Anthony Rocco Martin vs Neil Magny

I like Rocco Martin to get this win over Neil Magny and show that he is an improving fighter who is a real threat at welterweight. Rocco Martin is 5-1 in his last 6 fights since returning to welterweight, with his only loss coming via majority decision to Demian Maia in a fight that he really held his own and showed his grappling skills against one of the best in the world.

Neil Magny is the type of fighter who smothers opponents and uses top position to do damage and control opponents en route to decisions. He showed this strategy very well in his recent win over Jingliang Li where Magny dominated for 3 rounds. That said, I don’t see this path to victory for Magny in this fight because Rocco Martin matches up very well against him on the mat, and I actually give the edge to Anthony on the mat.

I think Rocco Martin should be able to get the better of Magny on the feet, and even when he is inevitably taken down, I think he can use his jiu jitsu to scramble back to the feet, or even look for a submission against Magny.
