NFL Week 8 Spread Betting Picks 2018

I ended up breaking even in week 7 going 1-1-1 with my picks against the spread.  The Cardinals were absolutely destroyed on Thursday Night Football, which put us behind right away, but the Redskins won their game over the Cowboys as expected, and we got unlucky with the Browns losing by a field goal to push the +3 spread.  I personally hit a nice parlay/round-robin on Sunday for $400 ($100 3-team parlay, $100 x3 round robins) taking the Lions money line, Redskins money line and Browns +3.5, so the fact that spread moved a little bit during the week helped me out on that parlay.  Regardless though, the pick goes into the archives as a push, which brings my season record to 7-10-1 betting the spread.

Cleveland Browns @ Pittsburgh Steelers

• Cleveland +8
• Pittsburgh -8

The Browns are still not winners, but they’re a capable team that has a solid defense.  I expect them to have a strong game against divisional opponent Pittsburgh.  The Browns offense hasn’t been great, but they’ve shown glimpses of coming together and I believe Baker Mayfield and company will be able to put up some points in this game.

The Steelers are coming out of a bye week, but they are still without Le’Veon Bell.  The offense has still been solid this season, but Pittsburgh’s defense hasn’t been great, forcing them to win some shootouts.  Pittsburgh has also been uncharacteristically poor at Heinz Field this year, losing 2 of 3 games at home.

I like the Browns to keep this game close.  Pittsburgh will probably win, but I’ll take the 8 points.

Seattle Seahawks @ Detroit Lions

• Detroit -3

The Lions have looked really good of late.  Stafford is playing high quality, mistake free football, and the team is giving him more room to breathe by actually getting a run game going this year.  Kerryon Johnson went off for 158 yards on the ground against the Dolphins, while LeGarrette Blount added 50 yards and a TD.  This added dimension to the offense is making the Lions extremely dangerous this year, because it’s also keeping the offense on the field for longer periods, allowing the defense to rest and put together quality minutes while on the field.

The Seahawks have actually been playing some very good football of their own.  Seattle is 3-1 in their last 4 games, with the loss coming to the league leading LA Rams by only 2 points.  That said, a couple of the wins have been over weak teams in the Cardinals and Raiders, and I do not think the Seahawks defense is up to the task of shutting down Stafford and company in Detroit.

Look for Detroit to get this win and really solidify themselves as contenders for a playoff spot in the NFL North.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Cincinnati Bengals

• Cincinnati -5

The Bengals did not look good in Sunday Night Football against the Chiefs.  That said the KC offense is extremely potent and once they were behind in that game, it was never going to be easy to claw their way back.  The Bengals will need a big win this week to regain some momentum from earlier in the season.  Hosting the Bucs is exactly what the doctor ordered.

I still consider the Bucs to be one of the worst teams in the league even with their respectable record.  The Bengals should have no trouble putting up points in this game and keeping the Bucs off the scoreboard.  Look for a big game from Joe Mixon as the Bengals control the game on the ground.
