The first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing is set to be contested this Sunday at Woodbine Racetrack. The field, including the starting positions, was announced yesterday which means you can now start to break down the horses and figure out who you are going to be betting on this Sunday.

- Academic 5/1

- Easy Indygo 30/1
- Portree 12/1
- Milwaukee Mist 30/1

It’s a large field with 14 horses vying for the win.
My Picks
Danish Dynaformer is the favourite at 3/1 odds, with Shaman Ghost just behind at 7/2.
Danish Dynaformer already has 5 races so far this year and he’s won 3 of them including a W last month at the Plate Trial. He was only the second horse in the last 8 years to break the 1:50 mark in the Trial. He’s used to the distance and should be able to put up a similar time this Sunday.
Shaman Ghost didn’t race last month, but he has won his last 3 races and that includes a win over Danish Dynaformer a couple months ago at the Marine-G3 at Woodbine. The issue with Shaman Ghost is he’s been racing 1 1/16 miles in his last 3 races, so this 1 1/8 mile race could play out differently for him.
I actually like Academic at 5/1 odds. She won the Woodbine Oaks last month at the same distance as the Queen’s Plate. She did it in a time of 1:48.86, which is actually about a second faster than Danish Dynaformer ran in the Plate Trial.
Ami’s Flatter is the next favourite, but I would stay away from this horse. He finished seventh at the Marine-G3 behind Shaman Ghost and Danish Dynaformer, and hasn’t won a race this year.
My favourite play is Academic at odds of 5/1. Of the two favourites I like Shaman Ghost at 7/2. I’m likely going to be making an exacta wager on Academic and Shaman Ghost this Sunday.
