The free picks just did not go my way yesterday. The Blues dropped one to the lowly Flyers, and the Panthers and Canucks, our other two picks, both lost in shootouts. Once the game heads to a shootout it really just becomes a coin toss. The hope is that the coin tosses even out over the course of the season.
Even though it was a bad night with the free picks I hit my 2 paid picks last night with plays on the Flames (2.85) and Wild (2.25). The Flames shootout win definitely lessened the sting of the other two shootout losses on the night.
NHL Free Picks Record: 82-103-1 for -5.12 units.
Minnesota Wild @ Carolina Hurricanes
The Wild are playing their second game in two nights, but this team is just on another level right now. They’ve won 15 of their last 18 games and they are still only 3 points from being outside of the playoffs. I don’t expect them to take their foot off the gas in Carolina. Which goaltender gets the nod isn’t known yet, but I still think the Wild will dominate play in this game and they should get another W.

Calgary Flames @ Detroit Red Wings
The Flames are also playing the second of back to back games tonight and they are up against a strong Detroit team that’s won 3 straight. The Flames just keep surprising me. Even after Giordano went down this team is still managing to find a way to win games and stay in the playoff hunt. At odds of almost 3.00 I think the Flames provide some value again tonight.
