Toronto FC is still sitting in a very good spot heading into the last third of the season. They have already secured more points than they did last year and they look poised to make an MLS playoff appearance, which has eluded them for some time. This Saturday they once again play the top team in the Eastern Conference in Sporting Kansas City. They will be in tough on the road in this match.
In other Canadian team news the Montreal Impact host the Chicago Fire. Montreal is having just an awful season and their playoff hopes are all but gone. That said they are still playing for pride and the Fire at home is definitely a winnable game.
The sole Western Canadian team, the Vancouver Whitecaps, are currently holding on to the last final playoff spot in the Western Conference. They are on the road to play Chivas USA, the lowest ranked team in the West, so this is a big game for them to keep ahead of their competitors for the final playoff spot.
Sporting KC vs Toronto FC
For each of the matches, I’m using the best 1×2 odds for the match from the sportsbooks I recommend to Canadians.
- Sporting Kansas City 1.77
- Draw 3.50
- Toronto FC 5.00
Toronto has turned things around of late with a couple big road wins over Montreal and Columbus to kick off the month of August. These teams are not the same quality as Kansas City, but I think it shows promise for their efforts in this coming game. Toronto lost a tight 2-1 battle at home to KC in late July and will be looking for revenge. Kansas City hasn’t looked quite as good this month as they are coming off a loss to Vancouver and a draw at home to Philadelphia. I think Toronto could pull off the big upset on the road to keep their momentum going.
Montreal Impact vs Chicago Fire
- Montreal Impact 2.40
- Draw 3.50
- Chicago Fire 2.95
The Impacts focus is likely on the CONCACAF Champions League now so I don’t expect much from them in their MLS matches. In fact Montreal has lost their last 6 MLS matches and I don’t see why this trend won’t continue. They played to a 1-0 win over CD FAS, a Champions League team from El Salvador, but that shouldn’t say much about their current quality. Chicago isn’t playing very high quality soccer at the moment either, but I think they will find a way to win in Montreal.
Chivas USA vs Vancouver Whitecaps
- Chivas USA 3.45
- Draw 3.40
- Vancouver Whitecaps 2.15
Keeping with my road team picks I’m going to go with the Whitecaps in this game. They’re coming off a big win over Sporting KC, one of the top teams in the league and they have a lot to play for being in the last playoff spot in the West. Chivas USA has lost 4 matches in a row and they actually haven’t scored a goal in their most recent 3 matches. I don’t see them turning this around against Vancouver and I foresee a 2-0 Whitecaps win in this match.
